Well we're off again! On
September 2nd 1999, two of the CopDrop team, along with four young
people from local schools, will travel to the orphanage at Tatarai,
the local school at Cormanic and tour Bucharest, the Romanian
capital.
This trip is taking a
computer for the school, soft toys for the orphans and providing a
truly wonderful adventure for all concerned. The lads have
fundraised themselves to be able to afford the trip and are
looking forward to seeing, hearing and understanding experiences
they will never forget.
Two are making video
diaries, one a still photographic diary and one a written diary.
They will be presenting their finding to their peers on their
return.

And it turned out to be
the trip of a lifetime!
In a packed 14 or so days,
we managed to visit the orphanage and the local school at
Cormanic. Links and friends were made between the young people
from Lincolnshire and their peers from this small market town in
the Pravhova district of Romania. Arrangements are already in
hand for the schools to communicate with each other and dialogue
has commenced. Email facilities are being used to fast-track
this and offers of exchange visits have been made!
The Mayor of Cormanic
spoke to us with the offer of twinning arrangements maybe being
possible with Horncastle. This is being explored and so far
positive noises are being heard from those affected.....
The young people who went
on the trip would tell you of their own thoughts on Romanian
life, the orphanage and schooling standards. A most productive
trip, which has helped those that went, to understand and to put
into perspective their own lives.
